Duplex scanners capture both sides of every sheet. Single-sided originals produce a blank image for every back side. A 100-sheet stack becomes a 200-page PDF where half the pages are empty.
Some scanners add separator pages between batches. Document feeders occasionally pull two sheets at once, leaving a gap that registers as a blank page. The result is the same: a PDF full of useless pages that inflate file size, waste paper when printed, and slow down document review.
Removing these pages manually in a PDF editor means scrolling through every page, selecting blanks, and deleting them one at a time. For a single file, that takes minutes. For a folder of 50 scanned documents, it takes hours.
Tiff PDF Cleaner automates this. It reads each page, measures how much content it contains, and removes pages that fall below the blank threshold. Deleted pages go to a separate folder so you can check them before committing.
After processing, open the separate PDF with removed pages. If any real content was accidentally flagged as blank, adjust the tolerance and rerun. Original files are never modified.
Tiff PDF Cleaner includes a command-line interface for unattended processing:
TiffPDFCleaner.exe C:\Scans\*.pdf -cPDF -RemoveBlank -Tolerance:5
Use this in a .bat file or Windows Task Scheduler to clean incoming scans automatically. The command-line version runs without a GUI and integrates into document management pipelines.
Adjustable blank detection. Not every blank page is perfectly white. Scanned paper has noise, shadows from the scanner lid, and faint marks from handling. The tolerance slider lets you define exactly how much content qualifies as "blank" for your specific scanner and paper quality.
Safe removal with review. Deleted pages are not destroyed. They are saved to a separate PDF so you can verify that no real content was removed. This two-step workflow prevents data loss even with aggressive tolerance settings.
Batch processing. Point the program at a folder with 500 PDFs and clean them all in one run. Each output file keeps the original filename. No manual page-by-page editing.
No Adobe Acrobat needed. Tiff PDF Cleaner uses its own PDF engine. No Acrobat license, no plugins, no dependencies. Install and run.
Works with TIFF too. The same blank-page detection applies to multi-page TIFF files. Scanned document archives in TIFF format get the same batch cleanup treatment.
Extra cleanup features. Beyond blank removal: add page numbers, date stamps, or filenames to headers and footers. Compress TIFF files with specific algorithms. Set PDF metadata properties. One tool handles the entire post-scan workflow.
