How to Count Pages in PDF and TIFF Files in Batch

You have 500 PDF invoices in a folder. Your print shop charges per page. How many pages total? Opening each file in Adobe Acrobat is not an option. Tiff Teller scans an entire folder of PDF and TIFF files, counts pages in every file, and gives you a report you can export to Excel, CSV, or PDF.
  • Counts pages in PDF and multi-page TIFF files — no Adobe Acrobat needed
  • Scans folders and subfolders in one batch run — hundreds of files in seconds
  • Shows file metadata: page count, file size, dimensions, DPI, compression type, creation and modification dates
  • Exports reports to XLS, CSV, PDF, TXT — ready for spreadsheets and accounting systems
  • Command-line interface for automated, scheduled reporting
  • 30-day free trial, no registration required

Why Counting Pages Manually Does Not Work

Multi-page TIFF and PDF files do not show their page count in Windows Explorer. You see file size and date, but not how many pages are inside. The only way to find out is to open each file in a viewer and scroll to the last page.

For 10 files, that takes a few minutes. For 500, it takes a full working day. For recurring tasks — monthly invoice batches, scanned document archives, print-shop job estimates — manual counting is simply not sustainable.

Tiff Teller eliminates this entirely. Point it at a folder, and it reads every PDF and TIFF file without opening a viewer. The result is a table with page counts, file sizes, and metadata — ready in seconds.

How to Count Pages in Batch: Step by Step

  • Step 1. Launch Tiff Teller. The left panel shows a Windows folder tree.
  • Step 2. Navigate to the folder with your PDF or TIFF files. The file list appears in the main panel with columns for name, page count, file size, and dates.
  • Step 3. Configure which columns to display. Right-click the column header to add or remove fields: dimensions, DPI, compression, color depth, and more.
  • Step 4. To include subfolders, enable the Include Subfolders option. Tiff Teller scans the entire directory tree.
  • Step 5. Click Export and choose a report format: XLS, CSV, PDF, or TXT. The report includes every column you see on screen.
  • Step 6. Open the exported report in Excel or any spreadsheet. Use SUM to get total page counts, sort by file size, or filter by date range.

The entire process takes under a minute for a folder with hundreds of files. Tiff Teller reads file headers directly — it does not render pages, so even large files are processed instantly.

Command-Line Page Counting

Tiff Teller includes a command-line interface for automated reporting:

TiffTeller.exe C:\Invoices\ -o C:\Reports\invoice-pages.csv

Schedule this in Windows Task Scheduler to generate weekly or monthly page-count reports automatically. The command-line version runs without a GUI window and fits into existing batch scripts and server workflows.

Why Use Tiff Teller?

Green PlusNo Adobe Acrobat required. Tiff Teller reads PDF and TIFF file headers using its own engine. Adobe Acrobat, Acrobat Reader, or any other third-party viewer is not needed on the machine.

Green PlusBatch processing. Drop a folder with 1,000 files and get a complete report in seconds. No file-by-file opening, no manual counting. Subfolders are included with one checkbox.

Green PlusMore than page counts. File size, dimensions in pixels and inches, DPI, compression type, color depth, creation date, modification date. Every detail that matters for printing, archiving, or billing.

Green PlusExport to Excel. The XLS export creates a ready-to-use spreadsheet. Sum page counts across hundreds of files with a single Excel formula. Filter, sort, and share the report with clients or team members.

Green PlusCommand-line automation. Generate reports from a .bat file or Windows Task Scheduler. No GUI, no user interaction. Perfect for servers and recurring jobs.

Green PlusOne-time purchase. A single license at $49.90 covers the software for life. No subscriptions, no per-file charges, no annual renewals.

When Do You Need Batch Page Counting?

  1. Print shop billing. Customers submit folders of PDF files for printing. The shop needs a total page count to calculate the job price. Tiff Teller scans the folder and exports an XLS report the billing department can use directly.
  2. Legal document processing. Law firms handle discovery requests with thousands of scanned pages in TIFF and PDF. Knowing the exact page count per file helps estimate review time, copying costs, and storage needs.
  3. Archive audits. Organizations that digitize paper records need to verify that every scanned batch matches the original page count. Tiff Teller reports let you compare scanned output against the source inventory without opening each file.
  4. Publishing and prepress. Layout teams need page counts from multiple PDF manuscripts to plan print runs, estimate paper use, and schedule press time. A single CSV export feeds directly into production planning spreadsheets.
  5. IT file management. System administrators managing shared drives with millions of TIFF and PDF files use Tiff Teller to audit storage: which folders consume the most pages, which files are oversized, which compression formats are in use.
